EDC Fans Slow Down Cell Services
The Electric Daisy Carnival is great for the Las Vegas community but not so great for cell companies who are trying to keep with the massive demand for data services.
With more than 140,000 young people in town for EDC, the demand being placed on cell and data providers has reached maximum capacity. Many cell phone users are facing delays in service especially during daylight hours when attendees are using their cell services on a moment-to-moment basis.
The high volume of service is really impacting most larger and smaller carriers and in some cases, users are getting the message of “no service” available or availability is down to one bar or two when usually Las Vegas is a four-bar community. One customer, Janice Harrington, staying at one of the local resorts said, “Sometimes it has been impossible to be able to get service,” adding, “This is my second year at EDC at each year it is the same thing.”
Most cell phone providers say while they are experiencing some issues their services remain fully operational. According to the providers in many cases where 4G services were the norm only 3G services might now be available. The huge volume of demand for cell service is expected to continue through Monday.
