Las Vegas Welcomes First Strong Start Academy
Las Vegas Mayor Carolyn Goodman and Councilman Ricki Barlow joined officials from Variety Early Learning Center Las Vegas for the grand opening of the brand new Strong Start Academy at Lorenzi Park. The newly renovated facility is the first of two Strong Start Academies opening this year. Goodman says the city is committed to giving children a “Strong Start” and making sure students who graduate from local high schools are ready for college and their careers. City officials say that will be done by advocating for and bringing awareness to the importance of early childhood education from birth to age 8.
Las Vegas isn’t alone in this quest. The city says it’s being joined by the Nevada Department of Education, Clark County School District, UNLV Department of Education, United Way of Southern Nevada and Children’s Advocacy Alliance. Their collective goal is to increase access to high-quality pre-K programs.
Variety Early Learning Center Las Vegas moved into the former Nevada State Museum site at Lorenzi Park in 2012 and now will partner in the Strong Start Academy at that location.
